2024

Subaru Legacy is a conceptual exhibit experience tracing 70 years of Subaru history, guiding visitors through a chronological timeline of iconic vehicles and milestones before transitioning into a showcase of the brand’s newest 2024 models.

Project Overview

Subaru Legacy is a conceptual exhibit experience designed to trace 70 years of Subaru history. Visitors are guided through a chronological timeline of iconic vehicles, key milestones, and the people behind the brand, before the experience transitions seamlessly into a showcase of Subaru's newest 2024 models. The exhibit was designed as a complete system, spanning exterior billboards and event posters, interior wayfinding, timeline wall panels, and product showcase displays.

opportunity

The goal was to design a cohesive exhibit identity system that could live across a wide range of touchpoints and scales — from large-format exterior signage to intimate interior panels — while staying true to Subaru's existing brand language. The challenge was creating something that felt immersive and editorial without departing from the visual identity Subaru's audience already knows and trusts.

Concept

The exhibit follows Subaru's full arc, beginning with the founding of Nakajima Aircraft Company in 1917 and moving through the brand's post-war pivot to scooters and small vehicles, the debut of the first Subaru car, and decades of growth into the automotive leader the brand is today. The experience is designed to feel earned — by the time visitors reach the 2024 model showcase, they carry the full weight of the brand's history with them.

Visual identity

The color palette and typography draw directly from Subaru's current brand standards, grounding the exhibit in a visual language that feels familiar and intentional. Original technical blueprints of Subaru's earliest products — including aircraft, scooters, and early automobiles — serve as the primary visual motif throughout the system. These blueprints connect the design language directly to the brand's engineering origins, giving the exhibit a sense of authenticity and depth that goes beyond surface-level aesthetics.
